NASA Sponsors Space Debris Foundation to Join Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) as Associate Organization

Space Debris Foundation (SDF) has been sponsored by NASA to join the Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) as an Associate.

CCSDS is an international forum, founded in 1982, that develops standard communications, data handling, and system architectures for spaceflight. One of the main goals is to enhance governmental and commercial interoperability, encourage cross-support, and reduce risk, development time, and project costs.

This is an important step forward for SDF and provides us with an opportunity to contribute directly to the development and advancement of international technical standards that support safe, sustainable, and interoperable space operations.

As part of our participation in CCSDS, SDF will be particularly involved with the Navigation Working Group, which provides a discipline-oriented forum for detailed discussions and development of technical flight dynamics standards. We look forward to contributing our perspective on issues related to standards, safety, and orbital sustainability. Our participation will also allow us to collaborate with experts from space agencies and organizations around the world as CCSDS continues developing standards for future space missions.

This milestone reflects SDF’s growing engagement in international space governance and technical standardization and advances our mission of promoting practical solutions to the challenges posed by space debris.
